Who What Why
We Are Here Productions was founded by Matt Lacas after realizing that as an actor living paycheck to paycheck, he was helpless to aid those in need when tragedy struck Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated its shores. He went to Quinton Naughton, musical director, and together they hatched a plan to raise $10,000 for Puerto Rico with the musical "In The Heights" with no budget and only 30 days to accomplish the task. Calling in all the favors they could, some lucky breaks and rallying of the Toronto artistic community, their inaugural show "In The Heights" went up for 3 nights in December and was a sold out success. The only thing left at the end of the run was the question "What's Next?" and We Are Here Productions was born.
We Are Here Productions is a nonprofit theatre company that aims to turn art into tangible aid for those in need worldwide. We are committed to helping charities reach new audiences with theatre that people want to see. Since our inception in December 2017, We Are Here has raised $30,000 for charities like the Hispanic Federation, Canadian Mental Health Association, WaterAid Canada and the Canadian Women's Foundation. We do things a little differently at We Are Here, by donating EVERY DOLLAR RAISED from our productions to a given charity. We are able to do this due to the immense support from our artistic community. We engage on a volunteer basis where professional artists donate their time, talent and resources to help us keep costs as low as possible and push our donation number to new heights. We have had the pleasure of working with the best of our community and wouldn't be here today without the support of the actors, musicians, theartre houses, publishing companies, and countless local shop owners who have pushed us far beyond that of an "independent theatre company". Thank You.
We Are Here Productions has always been a 2 person operation, but as we grow we are constantly looking for new team member to join our permanent admin/creative team. If you are interested, please don't hesitate to contact us.
